Join with others in your generation in setting aside some time each Tuesday to pray for our generation to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to all peoples in our generation.
A little background: A few generations ago, several students believed that they could see the 'Evangelization of the World in Their Generation.' And they went after it: starting prayer groups, mobilizing and enlisting their peers, holding regional, national and internatonal conferences and shrugging off the cultural norms and expectations of their generation. This group of students eventually grew to over 100,000 students, with student clubs/fellowships on every campus in the U.S. and Canada. This group called themselves the Student Volunteer Movement for Foreign Missions (SVM).
What is the focus of SVM2uesdays? SVM2uesdays is basically asking God to move in that way again in our generation. It's about setting aside a certain day to engage with God through the spiritual disciplines of prayer and fasting, interceding for our campuses, churches and peers to be radical and uncompromising in our devotion and obedience to Christ. It is praying for an awakening and renewal on our campuses, and praying that the result of the move of God would ultimately be the sending forth of workers into the harvest field among the forgotten; those with the greatest need and the least opportunity of a gospel witness.
The purpose of this weekly practice is to pray and intercede, wherever you are, for the vision that is behind the SVM2 Initiative, knowing that there are many others across North America that are praying for the very same thing on the very same day. There is a synergy and a momentum that begins to take place as we recognize that we are not alone as we seek God for this outpouring.
SVM2uesdays are focused entirely on two points of prayer:
§ For the younger generation and a renewed depth of spiritual fervor.
§ The younger generation’s involvement in reaching the world for Christ by going to the hardest areas around the world with the gospel.
SVM2uesdays is a core practice that all Message Bearers are encouraged to make a part of their discipleship to assist them in pursuing a life of abandoned devotion, global proclamation and spreading the vision.
How does it work? SVM2 encourages you to spread the vision of praying and fasting on Tuesdays. There's not an exact formula. Each person participating in SVM2uesdays is free to decide what the fasting component looks like. It could be fasting one meal, a food fast for the entire day or another form. Whatever it is, we ask that you make Tuesdays a day that you make a physical sacrifice for a spiritual reason, and take extra time to pray, intercede and seek the Lord. In addition, to enable us to serve you and resource you best, we ask that you let us know that you're praying on Tuesdays.
