GLOBAL PROCLAMATION:
Forgotten People Group: The Hunanese of China
The more than nearly 42 million Hunanese-Han are part a sub-group of China's largest ethnic group, the Han. They mainly live in Hunan Province, home of Mao Ze-dong, and the stage of the communist’s famous “Long March.” There are also significant groups of Hunanese-Han in Guangzhou Province and Taiwan. They speak Xiang, the major dialect of Hunan.
What Are Their Beliefs?
The Hunanese-Han are communists, yet there are still remnants of the teachings of Confucianism throughout the Chinese culture. Other beliefs have also lingered: Buddhism, Taoism, Islam and other ethnic religions.
What Are Their Needs?
The Hunanese-Han have needs that can only be satisfied by growing relationships with God and His people. Virtually tens of millions of Hunanese-Han do not know someone who can tell them of the love of God. However, through the power of prayer, the spiritual hunger of these people is being stirred, making them more open to the Gospel.
Prayer Points
- Ask the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into China to the Hunanese-Han.
- Pray that God will reveal Himself to the Hunanese-Han through dreams and visions.
- Pray that God will give the Hunanese-Han believers boldness to share Christ with their own people.
- Take authority over the spiritual principalities and powers that are keeping the Hunanese-Han bound.
- Ask God to raise up prayer teams who will begin breaking up the soil through worship and intercession.
- Ask the Lord to bring forth a triumphant Hunanese-Han church for the glory of His name!
- Pray that Christian radio broadcasts, evangelical literature, and the Jesus film will be made available to the Hunanese-Han.
- Ask the Lord to save key leaders among the Hunanese-Han who will boldly declare the Gospel.
Promise from Scripture:
“‘Behold, I will save My people from the land of the east and from the land of the west; I will bring them back, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. They shall be My people and I will be their God, in truth and righteousness.’” Zechariah 8:7-8
Generational Barrier:
Character Issues – God is raising up a generation who is holy and pure before Him. This is only so as we cling to what Jesus has done for us on the cross and through His powerful resurrection. In ourselves we are filthy, but clothed with Jesus’ righteousness we are made splendid and pure. Pray for the emerging generation to work out this purity in their daily lives through finding victory over the sins of commission and omission and walking with uprightness in character before God. (1 Peter 1:14,15; Matthew 5:48)
Prayer Journaling Response:
Take a few moments to record thoughts, prayers, and any insight. Also, it is often helpful to record how the Lord led in prayer – Scriptures, mental pictures, or a word or thought. Practice not only praying but also listening to the Lord. As we understand how the Lord is leading us, we can more quickly tune into the Lord’s voice when we have major decisions facing us or in times when the Lord feels far from us.
