Day 2

ABANDONED DEVOTION:

Creative Praise: In response to the following Scripture, sing a song of praise to Jesus, draw Him a picture, or write Him a poem.

“Praise Jesus Christ, the Lamb at the center of the throne, who will be our Shepherd; He will lead us to springs of living water. He is the one worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, because He was slain and with His blood He purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.” (Revelation 5:9, 7:17)

3-Stage Bible Study:  Read the Q—Analyze the Verse—Write Your Response

What are some of the results that God promises to those who seek God?  Write some things God has done for you because you sought the Lord.[i]

“I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry.  He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.  He has put a new song in my mouth, praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord.  Blessed is that man that makes the Lord his trust, and does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies” (Ps 40:1-4).

Prayer Journal Questions: Listen to the Lord as you meditate on the following verses.

What are sins that God is showing you that need to be confessed in your life and in your generation?

“‘Because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its inhabitants, and you humbled yourself before Me, and you tore your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard you,’  says the LORD.” (2 Chronicles 34:27)

What are ways you can pray for and pursue revival on your campus?

“Do not quench the Spirit.” (1 Thessalonians 5:19)

GLOBAL PROCLAMATION:

Forgotten People Group: Fula Macina of Mauritania

The Fula Macina, or Fulakunda, of Mauritania are a sub-group of the Fulani, who are one of the predominant people groups of West Africa. The Fula Macina speak a language called Fulakunda (or Fulfulde), which belongs to the West Atlantic branch of the Niger-Congo language family. Their culture and lifestyle are virtually identical to those of other Fulani peoples in West Africa.

Mauritania lies almost entirely in the Sahara Desert. The only exception is a narrow strip in the south along the Senegal River. It is there that the Fula Macina are located. The majority of the population consists of Moors with a mixed Arab and Berber ancestry, many of whom live as nomads. About 30% of the people are black African farmers who live in the Senegal Valley.

Islam, the state religion of Mauritania, is professed by more than 99% of the people. Arabic is the official language, and Pulaar, Wolof, and Soninke are recognized as national languages.

What are their beliefs?
The Fula Macina in Mauritania are 99% Muslim of the Malikite branch. As Muslims, they follow the teachings of the Koran, Islam's holy book. They believe that Allah is the only god and that Mohammed is his prophet. To teach their children the Muslim faith, some of the Fula Macina villages have established Islamic schools.

What are their needs?
The Fula Macina of Mauritania have the New Testament, the Jesus film, and Christian broadcasts available in their own language. However, they are very devoted to Islam and view it as a fulfillment of their needs. To win these precious people to Christ, further prayer is needed so that their hearts and eyes will be opened to the Truth.

Prayer Points:

  • Ask the Lord to send message bearers to share the Gospel with the Fula Macina.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to grant wisdom and favor to those targeting the Fula Macina.
  • Take authority over the spiritual principalities and powers that are keeping the Fula Macina bound.
  • Ask God to raise up prayer teams who will begin breaking up the spiritual soil of Mauritania through worship and intercession.
  • Ask the Lord to bring forth a triumphant Fula Macina church for the glory of His name!

Promise from Scripture:

David’s testimony of God’s mighty acts, “… that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.” 1 Samuel 17:46

Generational Barrier:

A Guarded Faith – God is an extraordinary God who will work extraordinary wonders among a people that trust Him and extend their faith in Him in the midst of great giants. May we leave behind our little faith and our great trust in ourselves and instead invite the Spirit of God to infuse within our weak and failing hearts a great faith in God and His divine abilities that supersedes all that we see with our natural eyes (Matthew 8:26-28).

Prayer Journaling Response:

Take a few moments to record thoughts, prayers, and any insight. Also, it is often helpful to record how the Lord led in prayer – Scriptures, mental pictures, or a word or thought. Practice not only praying but also listening to the Lord. As we understand how the Lord is leading us, we can more quickly tune into the Lord’s voice when we have major decisions facing us or in times when the Lord feels far from us.
