21 Days of Prayer and Fasting 2008
Introduction
The theme of the 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting 2008, is “Return to the Fountain.” When the Spirit of Jesus is poured out on a people, it is often described as a river or a fountain. The character of the movement of the Spirit suggests a powerful, cleansing, refreshing, and unstoppable rushing river. The source of the river is the Fountain of Life—Christ Himself. As we commit our hearts to fast for these 21 days, let’s come to Jesus and drink deep of the river of His delights. Let’s gaze upon Him in His Word, praise Him for who He is, confess our sins, and earnestly pray for the completion of the Great Commission and His subsequent return. When we see Jesus standing forth from His Word, full of radiance and glory, how can we not return to the fountain and invite the nations to join us?
ABANDONED DEVOTION
Creative Praise
We are all fearfully and wonderfully made, and God has deposited a unique expression of His image in each of us. Sometimes we are hindered in praising God because we feel restricted by certain styles of praise and worship. Worship God creatively and praise Him in the style and manner in which He leads you.
3-Stage Bible Study
1) After reading the question, reflect on how the topic is applicable to your life.
2) Read the Bible verse given for that question and meditate on it by reading it over and over, analyzing the significance of each word. Listen to what God is saying to you.
3) Record in your journal your response to the question. It gives you clarity when you write it down, even if the answer seems simplistic. And it is a useful record to which to reflect on later.
Prayer Journaling
Expressing yourself in a journal will help you think more clearly and give you a record of how the Lord is leading you in your fast. Record all insight the Lord brings to your mind, even if it seems insignificant. This is for both the “Abandoned Devotion” and “Global Proclamation” sections.
GLOBAL PROCLAMATION
Forgotten People Group
Take a few minutes to read over the information given. Whether personally or corporately, begin to pray for this group of people. Prayer points are listed but also pray other things as you are led by the Lord. All of the people group profiles are taken from http://www.global12project.com/upg.htm except for where otherwise stated.
Promise from Scripture
The word of God is powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword. In Ephesians, we are told that the word of God is the sword of spirit as part of our armor. Because of what the word of God says about itself, we need to use it as a tool and weapon as we pray. As you pray for this people group, remind the Lord of the promises that He has given to us about the peoples of the earth.
Generational Barrier
Every generation is called by God to finish and fulfill His command to tell all peoples of His love. However, obstacles stand in the way of making that a reality. These obstacles are not necessarily outward, but inner thoughts rooted in ungodly beliefs. We have highlighted the positive way to overcome barriers. Pray that these characteristics and beliefs would mark this generation.
