Abandoned Devotion Gatherings

Testimony from a student leader at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.Abandoned Devotion Gatherings are 5-8 hour gatherings, on campuses and in local churches, for the express purpose of seeking God through extended worship, uncompromising challenges, and radical prayer to see the message of Jesus spread globally in our lifetime.

These gatherings have been catalytic on many campuses to stir a new hunger for more of Jesus and a new passion for reaching the forgotten globally. See below for more stories.

"The Abandoned Devotion gathering at Cornell had a huge, but unexpected effect on my prayer life. To be honest, when I was praying for the Kohistani people group of Pakistan, there were moments where I had no idea how praying for these specific culture groups, on the other side of my world, had anything to do with me. But the Lord's answer came swiftly and firmly: 'It has nothing to do with you!'

"Over two hundred Cornell students from differing campus ministry backgrounds in one room, praying for five hours, and hardly a prayer breathed for our campus, our needs, or our desires. The gathering was a tremendous lesson on the power and call of intercession for the nations in our lives as Christians. It was not easy at first to be praying for people other than yourself or the people you know, but as we persevered into the late evening hours, the Holy Spirit broke our hearts individually and corporately, and we delighted in answering God's call to pray. When the night was over, there was joy in the fact that we had done what God created His church to do and we stayed around an extra hour and a half worshipping and seeking the face of God, simply because nobody wanted to leave. The blessing bestowed in unity fell amongst the Christians at Cornell." - Student Leader at Cornell University

"The Abandoned Devotion gathering at Olivet Nazarene University was amazing and I know that God is using it as a catalyst to spur growth, obedience, and revival on our campus, on other campuses, in our country, and among all the nations! It is really cool because the morning after the gathering I woke up and normally after an event where I was in leadership, I think, 'Oh wow ... it is nice that is over' instead I thought, 'Oh wow, it has just begun!' The students really caught the Korean style prayer time and it was powerful how God moved. We had three groups of girls and one group of guys and even in the individual groups, the Lord moved differently - in one group, the girls really became vulnerable with each other and cried together and prayed together. In my group, there was the vulnerability, but these girls really just had a heart for prayer - we prayed for the person in the middle for a couple of minutes and then someone would bring up an issue they would like to pray for that was not necessarily personal and we would spend minutes praying at the same time and holding hands for that issue on our campus or in the world. The worship and video clips were also powerful tools, and it was exciting to hear what the Lord laid on the hearts of the students who led the exhortations on repentance and sacrifice." - Student Leader at Olivet Nazarene University
