GROWING IN GLOBAL PROCLAMATION

We believe that all followers of Jesus are called to a lifetime of involvement in His global purpose and we challenge this generation to volunteer for two years or longer as you figure out what your lifetime involvement will look like.

The following are 3 action steps to take as you seek to fulfill your commitment to “GO” for at least two years to the forgotten around the world (for more details see the 2 Year Go list in this manual)

1)             Enlist Prayer and Emotional Support: First, pray and commit your journey to the Lord. Then, share your commitment to go for at least two years with your pastor, campus fellowship staff, advisor, or spiritual mentor. Ask them to pray for you and ask for their advice as you pursue your commitment.

2)             Get Involved In Ministry:

§         Work with international students on your campus or in your town or city.

§         Join the evangelism outreach of your church/fellowship.

§         Help mentor and disciple others in their walk with God.

§         Lead a small group of students and learn practical leadership effectively

§         Start a Global Prayer Team and develop a lifestyle of prayer and intercession.

3)             The GO List: Prayerfully look over the opportunities on the GO list. Use the contact info to connect with various organizations that might have the types of work in the areas of the world that you are interested in.

The following are more suggestions of ways to grow in Global Proclamation right now, wherever you are.

  • Take the Perspectives Course:  Watch out, this 15 week college level course is guaranteed to 'ruin your life for the ordinary.'  Find out where a course is being offered near you at www.perspectives.org
  • Go on a Short Term Missions Trip:  Talk to your pastor or campus fellowship leader to find out a good mission opportunity.  For other short term mission opportunities, check out www.shorttermmissions.com or www.adventures.org
  • Read a Mission Biography:  Here's a couple that will challenge you to broaden your vision.  When you finish these, check out the other books on the SVM2 Recommended Reading list:§      Imprisoned In Iran, written by Dan Baumann,  §      The Spiritual Secret of Hudson Taylor, written by Dr. & Mrs. Howard Taylor
  • Read a Book about Global Mission: Start with   The Missions Addiction, by David Shibley or The Great Omission, by Robertson McQuilkin
  • Lead a Bible Study:  Lead the eight week bible study “God's Heart for the Nations”.  This study is available at www.calebproject.org, look under 'Resources', and then under 'Adult Education.' This will impact you and deepen your understanding of the heart of God as you lead this.
  • Go to a Regional Missions Conference – You can find a list of some regional missions conference at www.calebproject.org.
  • Hang out with an International Student:  Most international students spend four years in the United States without ever being invited into a home for a simple meal.  Befriend someone from another country and show them hospitality.  It is a great way to begin to open up doors to the gospel.
  • If you go to a Christian college or university take a course on mission history or some class from the mission department.
