8 Distinctive Goals of a Global Prayer Team
A new season of united prayer is dawning upon the Church today. God is calling out and equipping this generation to seek Him through extended times of extraordinary prayer. This is evident by the growing numbers of college students who are gathering night and day to pray all across our nation. It’s essential that we recognize this new opportunity for intercession so we can quickly cooperate with the purposes of God and pray more effectively in the future.
Yet, this is more than simply the right time to pray - It’s a time to pray with the right focus. We believe that through united prayer God wants to release a fresh outpouring of abandoned devotion and global proclamation, and so we must pray accordingly. God’s people have always worked best in advancing His Kingdom after first being refreshed by the power of His presence. Through intense seasons of spiritual revival the Church becomes reacquainted with the unfailing love of Christ, and in turn is mobilized to go and share that love with an unreached world. Therefore we are calling students to strategic intercession for both the revival of the Church and the evangelization of the world, in this generation. (Ps 110:3).
The GPT Network seeks to unite and serve college students from across the nation with biblical and practical advice on how to start, sustain and advance a campus prayer movement. We are committed to personally encouraging you and your prayer group in the following eight principles of corporate prayer.
1) Christ-Centered: A Global Prayer Team should seek to incorporate moments of praise and worship throughout the prayer meeting to help nurture a Christ focused and free-flowing corporate prayer experience.
2) Balanced: A Global Prayer Team should encourage and practice balanced intercession for both the revival of the Church and the expansion of the Kingdom of Christ among all nations, and especially among the least reached and forgotten.
3) United: A Global Prayer Team should promote a cross-denominational and campus-wide prayer event at least once a semester. These inclusive prayer events provide an opportunity for students to visibly reaffirm their need for the body of Christ and the benefit of united prayer.
4) Leadership: A Global Prayer Team should establish and maintain a recognized leadership. Having at least 2 to 3 unified leaders enables a prayer group to reproduce itself quickly and meet more consistently. Each prayer group leader should seek to facilitate an inviting and hope-filled atmosphere of broad prayer participation.
5) Growth: A Global Prayer Team should grow and ideally reproduce itself at least once a year or after establishing a consistent prayer group of 5 to 20 participants.
6) Consistent: A Global Prayer Team should consistently meet at least once a week and if possible at a fixed time and location.
7) Persistent: A Global Prayer Team should cultivate a sustainable prayer vision and a series of specific prayer goals to persistently pursue.
8) Connected: A Global Prayer Team should seek to be informed and well connected to what God is doing among other campus prayer groups throughout the Church at large. Therefore each GPT should be actively involved in the monthly conference calls.
