ARTICLE:  Prayer Makes History:  Count Zinzendorf by David Smithers

"I have one passion;it is Jesus, Jesus only."

Throughout the history of the Church, it has always been the most ardent lovers of Jesus who have felt the greatest need for more of His presence. Surely it is with this class of saints that Count Zinzendorf belongs. For Zinzendorf, loving fellowship with Christ was the essential manifestation of the Christian life. Throughout the Count's life, "His blessed presence" was his all consuming theme. He had chosen from an early age as his life-motto the now famous confession; "I have one passion;it is Jesus, Jesus only."

A Man of Prayer

Flowing out of Zinzendorf's passionate love for Christ came a life disciplined in prayer. "Count Zinzendorf had early learned the secret of prevailing prayer. So active had he been in establishing circles for prayer that on leaving the college at Halle, at 16 years of age , he handed the famous professor Franke a list of seven praying societies." Also preceding the great Moravian revival of 1727, it was Count Zinzendorf who was used to encourage prayer for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. John Greenfield describes for us the constant prayer that followed the revival of 1727. "Was there ever in the whole of church history such an astonishing prayer meeting as that which beginning in 1727, went on one hundred years? It was known as the 'Hourly Intercession.' And it meant that by relays of brothers and sisters, prayer without ceasing was made to God for all the work and wants of His church.' The best antidote for a powerless Church is the influence of a praying man. The influence of Count Zinzendorf's prayer-life did not stop with one small community. It ultimately went on to influence the whole world.  Click to read the rest of this article…

>>From Irina @ Central Washington University

>>GPT:  S.A.L.S.A (students actively looking for spiritual awakening)

>>”It was so encouraging to see Christians gathered and ready to spread the word about who Jesus is”

>>Irina writes:  “Last week was JESUS WEEK here at CWU, and there were four campus ministries that did a wonderful job of bringing Jesus onto this campus--anywhere from sitting and praying in the SUB pit to banging on drums to playing worship music outside and handing out Christian literature.  It was so encouraging to see Christians gathered and ready to spread the word about who Jesus is--not because of some hidden agenda but because of a desire to see people respond to the gospel.

On April 12th was an All-Ministry worship night on campus...and what an incredible night of worship it was! It was a small gathering but size does not matter because the power of God was sensed by everyone in that room, even by non-Christians.  That night definitely energized many Christians--me for sure!

So--thank you again and again to all those who prayed for these outreaches. Your prayers were heard and felt. There is so much to praise God about--He is continuing to move in student's hearts. There were a handful of people who responded to the gospel last week, so please continue to pray the God would growth these students to walk in the footsteps of Christ.

The next big event at CWU is the praise rally. This event is scheduled for May 19th a little over one month away!! This praise and worship gathering (called United '06 "For the Lord's Renown") will be the first HUGE and powerful praise rally in Ellensburg since the time I've been here(long time). We eagerly await a spiritual awakening for this valley. We live each day to proclaim what Christ accomplished 2000 years ago on the cross because of His love towards us. We need a prayer network setup throughout the country to pray for a revival here in Ellensburg, WA. Please pray!--for salvation of the lost, for the logistics with something this size, and for funding to come pouring in.

Be filled with the spirit and look to Jesus, the 'author and perfecter of our faith' (Hbr 12:2).

>>From Laura @ Louisiana Tech University

>>GPT:  Global Prayer Team

>>”Prayer is such a powerful weapon that we are all capable of using every single day.”

>>Laura writes:  “Do you know what the single most powerful weapon a Christian has today? At Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA a small group of us have realized what a powerful weapon prayer is. Our prayer group started this past summer when a couple of guys from my church, Christ Community, begin to meet on Friday mornings to pray. When school started, they invited their friends to join and so began our global prayer team. We meet at 7:30 every Friday morning to pray for the Student Volunteer Movement as well as internationals on our campus.

After we pray together, we split up and walk around the campus as we pray. After 15 or 20 minutes we meet back together and close with a prayer. Those who can, stay and have breakfast together. Throughout the year we have seen God do so many things. Our group started out small with around five people that came regularly. Now we have anywhere between ten and fifteen people each Friday. This Friday, we are doing something different. Our goal is to have continued prayer all day long.

Each person will take a 30 minute time slot so that there will be somone praying at any given moment of the day. Through the group, we have shown people the importance of prayer and emphasized God's heart for the entire world. We are learning that we need to focus on all the people of the earth. In fact, there are three members, including myself, who are attending the I.T. Project this summer at the Center for World Missions. There, we will learn the Biblical Basis for Missions and practical applications to take back to our campus. We are also planning to teach the Perspectives course in the Spring of next year after we have taken it this summer. Understanding God's heart is so amazing as we realize how deeply He cares about the entire world.

Prayer is such a powerful weapon that we are all capable of using every single day. Take heart that we are in this together, and we look forward to hearing about other prayer groups around the country.
