Message Bearer Memo - Introduction Edition

Dear Message Bearers,

Greetings from SVM2 (Student Volunteer Movement 2) - www.svm2.net!  I trust that you are each doing well and that your summer was fruitful and a time for you to dig deep into your walk with God.

The SVM2 Initiative is gearing up for an exciting academic year. We believe that SVM2 could be in a place to really take off like wildfire in grassroots fashion as those in the younger generation, from varying organizations, campuses, and churches, like you, commit to spreading its vision in your midst among your peers.

As a part of equipping those who have signed the Message Bearer Creed, we want to invest in you through sending out bi-weekly (2 times a month) Message Bearer Memos through which we hope to encourage you spiritually and give you a sense of connectivity with the wider SVM2 circle.  I desire that these be in a devotional style that really encourages us, specifically in our spiritual preparations for the 2 Year Go commitment that we made when signing the Creed initially. These will be crafted to increase your spiritual vision and depth over the coming year. Some will call you to action and others will be focused on the inner-man.

You will begin receiving the MBM’s on Tuesday, September 28th and they will be sent out just about every other week from then on.

Let me reiterate what the SVM2 Initiative is: SVM2 is an international mission initiative among the younger generation calling new cross cultural message bearers to a life of Abandoned Devotion to Jesus Christ and the urgent global proclamation of His gospel.

As each mission minded student, former student, mission fellowship, campus ministry, and college and career ministry in a local church, commits to their part in calling their peers to a greater standard of Going & Praying, momentum is gained and the opportunity for those that are least reached around the world to have the gospel proclaimed to them is made possible. This will not happen all by itself, however. We are in a pivotal hour today where we need all hands on deck spreading a vision of a generation ablaze for the global purpose of God and its accomplishment through them.

The original Student Volunteer Movement took place in North America from 1886-1925 and caught a generation of young revolutionaries with a sense of commitment, life purpose, and vision that reached to the ends of the earth.  This was an era prior to airplanes, short term mission trips, and cell phones. 20,000 new missionaries were added to the ranks as a result of the Student Volunteer Movement. These were radical young adults who committed their entire lives to reaching those who had little chance to hear the gospel worldwide. Many were known as the “missionaries of the one-way ticket” as they purposed in their hearts that they were “going” to stay and not return.   “The evangelization of the world in this generation,” became their motto and students across North America adopted it and believed it.

The time is ripe for a move of God of this sort again! The Lord seems to be widely sounding His battle cry, and enlisting those from the younger generation, who will respond, out of a ravished heart of love for Jesus with, “Here am I. Send Me. (Isaiah 6:8)” It is in the ideals and the pioneering and fervent spirit of the original Student Volunteer Movement that the SVM2 Initiative moves forward.

The Two Pronged Vision of the SVM2 Initiative:

A.   Going

The “going” strategy of the SVM2 Initiative is to corporately, across the younger generation, call forth 100,000 new message bearers from around the world, who will “GO” to the least reached areas of the world for at least two years following graduation.

B.   Praying

The “praying” strategy of the SVM2 Initiative is to inspire a prayer movement among the younger generation through encouraging the initiation and formation of 50,000 new Global Prayer Teams on campuses and in churches who pointedly dedicate themselves entirely to praying for the expansion of the kingdom of God globally and the younger generation’s involvement in this great endeavor.
